It was hard to ignore the heated conversation at the table next to ours as we gathered to watch the night sky descend over the beach during our getaway to Manta Island Resort. A couple of fervent divers argued that daytime dives are the ultimate thrill while their companions were equally enthusiastic about night dives where the underworld transforms into a technicolor fairyland. Which side of the table would you sit on if you had been part of this discussion? Consider making a Manta stay and at least one nighttime dive your next vacation goal. We assure you, neither will be isolated incidents once you taste both!
The Manta Island Resort difference
Lots of Belize resorts offer activities that make the Caribbean the best place to dive, but staying at Manta is the ultimate experience. This family friendly resort occupies the edge of one of the few atolls located off the Belize coastline, and you would be remiss if you didn’t avail yourself of the all-inclusive package that frees you up to dive non-stop.
Accommodations are lush, meals are divine, and diverse activities, tours, and entertainments make a sojourn at Manta such a distinctly different experience, you may become a reef convert, refusing to settle for a mainland resort again. Take advantage of highly coveted current Manta specials that lower the cost of a stay by an appreciable amount of money!
Why the enthusiasm about night dives?
If you know anything about the diving experience, it’s evident why every opportunity to don gear and jump into the water is exceptional, but elements of a night dive make that experience more memorable. You’ll run into nocturnal prowlers and glowing critters and while not everything you spot is on the prowl—day-dwelling fish nap at night–fantastical creatures emerge from hiding places within the reef.
Crabs, lobsters, and shrimp emerge to mate and feed as predators (moray eels, cuttlefish, lionfish, and octopuses) scurry about. What attracts those feeders? Coral polyps are important parts of this underwater ballet, and you could see cocooning parrotfish wrapped in layers of mucus that cleverly hide their scents from those predators. Visual distractions fade when daylight is gone, and divers report a deeply felt sense of calm.

While night dives are not included in Manta’s regular all-inclusive option, it’s easy to upgrade from a two-tank Glover’s Reef dive to a one-tank night dive for a small upcharge, so if you saved money via a resort special, why not say yes to this unique opportunity? All it takes is one night dive to make you a convert, so what say you to this chance to have your mind blown during this unique adventure?
