If you’re getting excited about your upcoming Caribbean trip, just the act of booking a pleasurable escape triggers rushes of dopamine that flood the body, but there could also be another reason you feel elated: Rain makes some people happy, according to a recent University of Pennsylvania’s newsletter.
Keep this in mind when planning your vacation to Belize because this nation is proud of its rainfall! Without seasonal showers, landscapes wouldn’t be half as verdant or beautiful, animals relying on rain might migrate, and you’d be looking forward to a different kind of holiday. Make friends with rain as you make plans for your getaway, and you’re guaranteed a better experience than folks who let rain spoil their escapes.
The art and science of Belize rains
Belize receives between 60 and 175 inches of total annual precipitation. Around 60% of it falls during the rainy season that lasts from June through November (and perhaps December). Despite the nation’s small size, there’s a big difference in the amount of rain that drops. That depends upon where you headquarter. Northern Belize receives around 60-inches, Central Belize about 75-inches, while Southern Belize averages between 150-and-175-inches.
It’s not unusual to experience brief (10-day to 2-week) dry spells known as “Maugas” or “little dries,” and it’s also not uncommon for rain to come down in short, heavy bursts. Tropical thunderstorms are more common during evening hours. Happily, all-day “washouts” are rare.
What do these predictable patterns mean for your holiday?
If you are a self-admitted rain fan who says, “The more the better,” you’ll be giddy if you visit during rainy season. If, on the other hand, you wouldn’t be thrilled if you were promised a seat on Noah’s Ark, count on your Manta Island Resort hosts for enough diversions to keep you in great spirits, even when it sprinkles.
If there’s no lightening, you can roam barefoot along the beach at Manta, located at the edge of an ancient atoll, and say yes to ocean-focused tours, remembering that crews won’t set out if the weather is risky. Further, it’s great fun to get together with other guests at the Black Coral Restaurant and Bar and you’re going to love all aspects of your all inclusive vacation package.
If this is a romantic sojourn, you don’t need advice from us about how to spend time waiting for rain to dissipate, and you sure won’t be the first guest to seek pleasure within the confines of the Tranquil Tides Spa where raindrops add a sensory touch to every service. As a kid, you likely danced in the rain. Why not get in touch with your inner child now? We have it on good authority that this can make you feel just as joyful as it did then!
